Neil Gunn writing competition 2025/26

A group of four people stands on a stone path beside a wooden fence at a scenic hilltop viewpoint. In the background, a large sculpted stone monument sits on a circular paved base surrounded by tall grass. Rolling fields, distant hills, and a bright sky with scattered clouds stretch across the landscape.

The Neil Gunn Writing Competition 2025/26 is now closed for entries.

This year’s lead judge is Highland-based author Shona MacLean, author of The Bookseller of Inverness. Chief poetry judge is Jon Miller, also based in the Highlands and a previous winner of the poetry section of the Neil Gunn Writing Competition.

The winners of all categories will be announced prior to the award ceremony which takes place on 18th June 2026.
