Ferrycroft Visitor Centre is a welcoming hub for history, nature, and family fun – and admission is free! Explore interactive displays and games across three themed rooms: Water, Land, and People, along with seasonal exhibitions. Browse Highland-inspired gifts in our shop or enjoy a treat in the coffee shop. Outside, relax in beautiful gardens with wood carvings, seating, and a play area featuring swings, a climbing frame, and a zip wire. Two scenic walks start from the centre, and there are plenty of activities to keep children entertained.

Water Room

Land Room
Boards and displays covering land use, forestry and wildlife. Local History Society display (150 years of Lairg railway station). Hire for large group meetings.
People Room
Photographs, video and information boards to show how people lived and how Lairg developed. Boards and video describing the Lairg asteroid impact. Suitable for small group meetings (20 people).

Opening times
Reaching Ferrycroft Visitor Centre on foot is straightforward and enjoyable, with well‑used local pavements and paths linking the centre to the surrounding area and villiage of Lairg.
Lairg is not directly on a signed National Cycle Network (NCN) route, but it can be reached via NCN Route 1, also known as the North Sea Cycle Route, which passes through Tain and the Kyle of Sutherland before continuing inland to Lairg on quiet, lightly trafficked roads
By bus: Regular bus services stop nearby at Black Bridge, Lairg, which is around a 5‑minute walk from the centre. Services serving Lairg include Stagecoach routes 4 (Lairg–Tain) and 906 (Lairg–Helmsdale), as well as longer‑distance services such as route 805 (Durness–Inverness). By train: Lairg railway station is served by ScotRail services on the Far North Line. From the station, Ferrycroft Visitor Centre is approximately a 30‑minute walk via local pavements and paths. Visitors are advised to check current timetables before travelling, as services may vary seasonally.
Ferrycroft Visitor Centre is located in Lairg and is easily reached from the A836, the main route through the village. From the A836, cross the Black Bridge (A839) and follow local road signs through the village towards Loch Shin and Ferrycroft. The visitor centre is signposted from the village centre
