In 1996 the printmakers commissioned artists to create artwork to celebrate the Hillman Imp, a car manufactured in Scotland at the Linwood car plant. The artwork was contained within an actual Hillman Imp, which went on to tour round Scotland, the tour culminating outside the Asda that now sits on the site of the former Linwood plant. The exhibition was hugely popular and BBC Ex-S arts programme produced a documentary ‘Linwood No More' about the project. This event is a talk by lead artist on the project, John McNaught and the documentary film director, Don Coutts, followed by a screening of Linwood No More.
From Alba to Arabia - Talk: Wednesday 6 May, 6-7pm, Room to Discover
In 2019, Highland Print Studio received funding from the British Council’s UK-Gulf Exhibitions Programme to tour an exhibition and education programme to venues across the Gulf Region. The Studio developed partnerships with venues in Dubai UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The exhibition of contemporary printmaking was accompanied by a programme of talks and printmaking workshops. Highland Print Studio’s Alison McMenemy and John McNaught, who curated and toured with the exhibition, tell the story of their collaboration with organisations across the region.
Spaces are limited to 30 for the talk events, so we encourage booking a place via our Ticket Tailer. There is no charge for events, but donations are welcomed.
