James H. Rosie Moth Collection

A wooden box with a white lining, with moth specimens pinned in vertical rows. Most are shades of speckled brown or orange, but two are bright yellow in colour.
James H. Rosie Moth Collection

This collection of Caithness moths was compiled by the late James H. Rosie over several decades and donated to the museum by his family in 2023.

As well as hundreds of specimens with meticulously recorded data, the accompanying archive includes notebooks charting the weather and environmental factors, making the collection a valuable scientific resource.  Photographs of the specimens can be seen below.  Anyone wishing to view the specimens and archive is welcome to book an appointment.
