A baton stop packed with energy
Children taking part in a High Life Highland School's Out sports camp at Aviemore Community Centre were in for a treat this week, as the Commonwealth Games King's Baton Relay Team dropped by to share some Games excitement.
The visit, on Tuesday 14 July, gave the young participants a chance to see the baton up close, get it involved in their sports activities, and find out more about the Baton Relay and the sports on show at this summer's Commonwealth Games.
Weightlifters welcome the baton to Inverness
The following morning, the relay continued its journey to Inverness Leisure, home of Highland Weightlifting Club. Coaches and club members turned out to welcome the team, proud to be part of a nationwide celebration of sport, community and achievement.
High Life Highland Chief Executive and Chair of Highland Weightlifting Club, Steve Walsh, said it was a proud moment for both organisations. "It's been a privilege to welcome the baton team to the Highlands. Highland Weightlifting Club and High Life Highland share values with a positive vision to use weightlifting to promote physical, mental and social health and wellbeing."

Part of a nationwide celebration
The King's Baton Relay is travelling the length and breadth of Scotland ahead of the Commonwealth Games, taking in 80 events across 21 local authority areas and showcasing all 10 sports that will feature at Glasgow 2026, which begins on 23 July. We were delighted two of those stops landed right here in the Highlands.
