A circular design featuring numerous stylized fish in shades of blue and gray swimming around the center. In the middle of the circle, the text reads “Following the Fish” in a decorative font. The background inside the circle is light blue, creating a sense of movement and flow among the fish.

Following the fish

Nucleus: The Nuclear and Caithness Archives

For over 100 years the Herring Girls were the backbone of the UK’s fishing industry. Following the Fish was a joint project run by High Life Highland’s Archive Service in partnership with Suffolk Archives, the Norfolk Record Office, and Tasglann nan Eilean (the Hebridean Archives) to capture their stories.

The exhibitions  showcase records from all the archive centres as well as stories, photographs and memories captured through interviews with locals and family members of herring lassies. Click here to visit the exhibition.
