Queen's Park Running Track – Refurbishment Closure
Please note that Queen's Park Athletics Stadium is currently closed to allow for essential refurbishment works to the running track. The works began on Monday 1st June 2026.
Once the old track surface was removed, further investigation found significant defects in the asphalt base and perimeter kerbing beneath it — more extensive than originally expected.
Additional remedial work has therefore been agreed to make sure the refurbished track performs well and lasts long-term. This extra work is now underway.
As a result, the original 12-week timescale no longer applies. We're currently waiting on a revised programme from the contractor, so we can't yet confirm how long the delay will be or give a new completion date. As with all track resurfacing projects, laying the final surface also depends on suitable weather conditions.
We know that delays can be disappointing, and we're working closely with the contractor to keep any further delays to a minimum. This is a significant investment in the facility, and everyone involved is working to complete it as soon as possible.
We'll update this page as soon as we have more information.
