Induction requirements
To ensure your safety and help you get the most from your workouts, all new members must complete an induction with a qualified member of our leisure team before using any gym or strength & conditioning (S&C) areas.
The induction covers safe and effective use of equipment, helping you understand how it supports your fitness goals. If a facility has both a gym and an S&C area, separate inductions are required for each.
Returning users
If you've previously completed an induction at another High Life Highland site, you may be eligible for a fast-track familiarisation session. This ensures you're confident with the equipment and aware of any site-specific features. You’ll still need to complete a new PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) for each site you use.
If we cannot confirm your previous induction record, you’ll need to complete a full induction for each area you wish to use.
Induction options
Main gym
- Gym Induction
Required for all new users. Covers safe use of cardio, resistance, and strength machines in the main gym area. - Gym Familiarisation
For experienced gym users. You’ll demonstrate your competency on cardio, resistance, and strength equipment. - Existing High Life Highland Gym User
If you've completed a gym induction at another High Life Highland site, you can use other gyms without repeating the induction. A new PAR-Q is still required. You’ll receive a brief tour covering cleaning stations, emergency exits, alarms, water stations, and any specialist equipment that may require further induction.
Strength & conditioning (S&C) area
- S&C Induction
For beginners or those less confident with weightlifting. Covers key lifting techniques to reduce injury risk. - S&C Familiarisation
For experienced lifters. You’ll demonstrate safe and correct lifting techniques. - Existing High Life Highland S&C User
If you've completed an S&C induction at Lochaber Leisure Centre, Inverness Leisure, or Invergordon Leisure Centre, you may not need to repeat it. However, a new PAR-Q is required, and a brief health & safety overview will be provided.
