More than 750 primary school pupils from across the Highlands came together at Torvean Park in Inverness today for one of the year's most eagerly anticipated events — the McRobert Cup cross-country competition.
Now in its 21st year, the event had originally been scheduled for last month before bad weather forced a postponement. Thankfully, conditions today were much kinder, and the trails at Torvean delivered a brilliant backdrop for a day of racing.
Nearly 40 schools — and some home educators — took to the trails
Close to 40 schools took part, with Abernethy Primary School making their debut at the competition. For the first time ever, nine home-educated children also joined the fun, adding something a little different to what is already one of the Highland calendar's best-loved school sport events.
The furthest travelling school was Newtonmore Primary School, whose pupils made a 100-mile round trip to the Highland capital to take part — a commitment that says everything about what the McRobert Cup means to young runners across the region.
Medals and trophies were presented by local sports stalwart Colin Baillie MBE and High Life Highland Board Member Dave Ellis.
