There was plenty to celebrate at Ullapool High School as the school rounded off another successful academic year with a major sporting achievement.

The school has been awarded the prestigious sportscotland Gold School Sport Award – the highest level of recognition available through sportscotland’s School Sport Award programme. The accolade recognises schools that go above and beyond to place sport and physical activity at the heart of school life, creating opportunities for young people to participate, lead and achieve.

The award is also a testament to the dedication of staff, pupils and community partners, who have worked together to create a strong culture of sport and physical activity within the school.

The Gold School Sport Award recognises excellence across a wide range of areas, including physical education, competitive and recreational school sport, leadership opportunities for young people and clear pathways that encourage lifelong involvement in physical activity.

Creating a culture of sport and physical activity

Ben Bruce, High Life Highland Active Schools Coordinator said: "Achieving Gold status is a significant milestone and reflects the school's ongoing commitment to ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to get involved in sport, regardless of their ability or experience. Through a wide range of activities and clubs, pupils are encouraged to develop new skills, build confidence and enjoy the many physical, social and mental wellbeing benefits that come from leading an active lifestyle."

"The award is also a testament to the dedication of staff, pupils and community partners, who have worked together to create a strong culture of sport and physical activity within the school."

Receiving the Gold School Sport Award places Ullapool High School among a select group of schools across the region, recognised for delivering outstanding sporting opportunities and fostering a positive, inclusive environment where young people can thrive.
