Highland athletes who need a helping hand with travel costs are being encouraged to apply to the Athlete Travel Award Scheme (ATAS) to support them on their sporting journey.

The deadline for applications for this round of the fund is Friday 4 September, so there's still time to apply — but not long left.

What is ATAS?

ATAS is delivered through a partnership between sportscotland and High Life Highland. Successful applicants can receive up to a maximum of £750 towards travel and accommodation costs, along with access to highlife facilities at no charge to help them focus on their fitness and strength.

The scheme is aimed at performance level athletes living within the Highland area who face considerable expense getting to training and competitions, often out with the region.

Since it was established in 2020, ATAS has supported golfers, snowboarders, runners, surfers, gymnasts, cyclists, rowers, basketball players and many more.

High Life Highland's Head of Sports Development, Darren Reid, said:

"We would encourage any performance athletes living in Highland to apply to this scheme if they would benefit from some financial assistance to help with their travel costs. Whether that's trips within Scotland and the UK for training and competitions or even further afield.

"At High Life Highland we are committed to supporting our talented athletes, ensuring they have the best possible opportunities to excel in their chosen sports at the highest levels of competition. We are delighted to be able to play a small role in their success."
