We're delighted to invite you to a very special evening talk during Skye Week — a celebration of one of Scotland's most gifted and beloved musicians, Martyn Bennett.

The event takes place on 10 June at Portree Community Centre, and is brought to you by our Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre.

About Martyn Bennett

Cutting-edge yet steeped in tradition, Martyn Bennett (1971–2005) came from a long line of Skye tradition-bearers. A piper, fiddler, composer and endless experimenter, he was one of Scotland's most prodigiously gifted musicians until his untimely death at the age of 33.

An intimate portrait in music and memory

The evening will be introduced by Martyn's mother, singer, folklorist and author Margaret Bennett, who will share a collection of photographs, memories and music — including previously unreleased recordings.

It's a rare chance to hear and see other facets of Martyn's character and musicianship, among them a Paganini duet played by Martyn alongside the inimitable Hester Dickson.

The event will also explore the Bennett family's deep connections to Skye through stories, images and shared heritage — offering a moving and intimate portrait of a truly remarkable musical figure.
