Highland Print Studio is celebrating a landmark anniversary this year, and we're delighted to be hosting the party. A special exhibition at Inverness Museum & Art Gallery tells the story of how one small but ambitious collective of artists became a cornerstone of creative life in the Highlands — and far beyond.
Founded in 1986, the Studio grew from a simple shared ambition: to create a space where artists could come together, collaborate and make work. Forty years on, its reach has extended from Scottish community halls to galleries in the Gulf Region.
It has been a real treat to look back through the archive and bring the spotlight back onto some exciting and sometimes challenging times.

What's in the exhibition?
The HPS @ 40 exhibition weaves together storyboards, original artworks, photographs and archive artefacts to trace the Studio's journey over four decades. Highlights include the story of the iconic ImpPotent project — a 1996 touring exhibition that travelled Scotland in a Hillman Imp — alongside a collaboration with the shinty community, and an ambitious international project that brought a portable print studio and contemporary printmaking exhibition to the Gulf Region.
The launch event drew around 100 people spanning every generation of the Studio's history, and it was a brilliant reminder of just how much this organisation means to the local creative community.
The exhibition is open to the public until Saturday 6 June. You'll find us at Inverness Museum & Art Gallery on Castle Wynd, open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am–5pm.
