Two S6 pupils from Portree High School have been recognised for remarkable dedication to their community, earning Leadership Programme hoodie awards during Volunteers' Week (1–7 June).
Beth Macdonald and Sadie MacIlraith received their awards from Lord Lieutenant Joanie Whiteford at a special ceremony in Portree — made even more memorable by the arrival of the RNLI's new lifeboat on the same day.
Beth makes history with the platinum hoodie
Beth became the first pupil at Portree High School to achieve a Platinum Hoodie — our highest honour, awarded for completing more than 750 hours of volunteering.
To earn the Platinum award, participants also organise a fundraising event for a local cause. Beth chose to host a sports event in aid of SkyeFugees, a cause close to her community.
Since joining our Leadership Programme in S3, Beth has contributed across a huge range of activities. She has supported after-school football through youth work, our Active Schools programme, Ross County Ladies, Alba FC and IB Sports. She has also played a key role in Fèis events, supported after-school clubs at Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh, and this year took on the role of Young Sports Ambassador.
The number of hours Beth and Sadie have dedicated to supporting others across such a wide range of activities is truly inspiring.

Sadie earns gold with 500+ hours
Sadie MacIlraith was awarded a Gold Hoodie for completing over 500 hours of volunteering — becoming the sixth pupil in the Portree cluster to reach this milestone.
Her contributions span a wide range of activities, including supporting LMPA Youth Theatre, delivering football and shinty coaching through Active Schools and Youth Work, assisting with summer activity programmes, and engaging in youth work initiatives. Sadie has also served as both a Young Sports Ambassador and Shinty Ambassador within the school.
"Fantastic role models"
Sarah Ross, our Active Schools Coordinator, said: "The number of hours Beth and Sadie have dedicated to supporting others across such a wide range of activities is truly inspiring. It has been a privilege to have them involved in the Leadership programme, and they are fantastic role models for younger pupils across the cluster.
"The achievements of both pupils highlight the positive impact young people can have within their communities and serve as an inspiration to others to get involved in volunteering."
