A Culloden Academy pupil is celebrating an incredible milestone after dedicating more than 750 hours to volunteering in her school and local community.
Fifteen-year-old Ella White has been awarded the prestigious Platinum Hoodie through the High Life Highland Leadership Programme — a recognition of her outstanding commitment, enthusiasm and impact.
Ella’s journey has been one of hard work, generosity and a genuine passion for helping others. Alongside her volunteering, she organised a hugely successful fundraiser for Cancer Research UK, raising an impressive £733.72 by hosting a coffee morning at Barn Church in Culloden during the Easter holidays. She was presented with her Platinum Hoodie as she handed over the cheque to volunteers at the charity’s Inverness shop.
A Commitment to Community
Throughout her time in the Leadership Programme, Ella has thrown herself into a wide range of opportunities.
She has led dance sessions for younger pupils at Smithton Primary School, helping to build their confidence and enjoyment of being active. She has also supported School’s Out holiday camps in Culloden, providing a positive and encouraging presence for children taking part.
“Ella has been a fantastic ambassador for the Leadership Programme in Culloden, consistently showing reliability, commitment and a genuine passion for helping others.
Active Schools Coordinator
Beyond school, Ella has made a real difference in her local community. At Barn Church, she regularly volunteers at the warm hub, serving food and drinks and helping with the smooth running of sessions. She has also supported Blythswood Care, helping to pack and check shoebox donations destined for people in need.
Her volunteering doesn’t stop there. Ella has also given her time to The Leanne Fund, assisting at local bingo nights, and has helped at major events including the Loch Ness Marathon — showing a willingness to get involved wherever support is needed.
“I’ve Loved Every Minute”
Reflecting on her experience, Ella spoke about how much the journey has meant to her:
“I have honestly really enjoyed my journey as part of the Leadership Programme and cannot recommend becoming a Young Leader enough.
I feel incredibly grateful to have been involved in so many community events. I’ve met so many inspiring and kind people along the way, and I’m very thankful for the experience.”
A Role Model for Others
High Life Highland Active Schools Coordinator David Shaw praised Ella’s dedication and positive attitude:
“Ella has been a fantastic ambassador for the Leadership Programme in Culloden, consistently showing reliability, commitment and a genuine passion for helping others.
Whether leading dance sessions for younger pupils or supporting community initiatives, she is a friendly and trusted role model. Her dedication has made a real difference within schools and across the wider community, and she is highly valued within the programme.”
Recognising Outstanding Achievement
The Platinum Hoodie, sponsored by Tracey and John Morrison of J&T Morrison Haulage Ltd, is awarded to young people who go above and beyond in their volunteering.
Ella’s achievement highlights not only the opportunities available through the High Life Highland Leadership Programme, but also the incredible impact young people can have when they are given the chance to get involved.
From supporting younger pupils to giving back to her community and raising money for charity, Ella’s story is a powerful reminder of the difference dedication, kindness and enthusiasm can make.
