Brora Primary leads the pack at East Sutherland cross country event

Brora Primary School came out on top at the recent East Sutherland School Sports Association (ESSSA) cross country competition. The event at Bonar Bridge Ardgay Golf Club last week saw 100 runners sprinting the course.

All eight schools from East Sutherland were represented as well as North West Sutherland Schools and Gledfield Primary School, giving a total of 10 schools competing, with races split into P4-5 girls, P4-5 boys, P6-7 girls and P6-7 boys. The East Sutherland Schools also competed for first and second place in the small and big schools categories, split between boys and girls.

On hand to present the prizes was High Life Highland Trading Board director and keen runner Valerie Graham.

It so rewarding to see all the local schools attending this event and the pupils excited to run the course – also a special mention to the two Primary 2 pupils from Rogart Primary School for taking part in the event – Lexi & Sevi!

“There was an exciting atmosphere and the sun was shining which is always a bonus. All the runners did their best and did a great job of cheering on their classmates as they crossed the finish line.

“A very big thank you to all the school staff and volunteers who helped on the day and to Bonar Bridge Ardgay Golf club for hosting the event. We are also extremely grateful to High Life Highland board member Valerie Graham for coming along to present the medals.

“Without the enthusiasm of staff and volunteers we wouldn’t be able to run these events, which are so important for children to gain experience of a competitive situation as well as being sociable and mixing with other schools.”
