‘Bole’ is comprised of a series of wall sculptures, hand-carved in local timber. The title refers to the main trunk of a tree, from which the linked forms are carved, and is also a term for the red earth which has been gathered from near the artist's home and used as a pigment.
These organic forms are characterised by intertwining loops and knots, with each separate linked element carefully excavated, from one piece of wood. The ochre pigment has also been used to make a series of drawings, which explore these overlapping lines with paint in its liquid state flowing along channels embossed into paper.
