Badminton Basics – Badminton Scotland

This is a Badminton Scotland Course and is for anyone 14 years.  The Badminton Basics course is great for coaches with little or no badminton experience.  It focuses on fun games for beginners, allowing participants to lead sessions at schools and assist more experienced coaches at clubs. It is a core component of the new coaching awards and, as such, is the first step on the pathway.

About the Workshop

This course replaces In Safe Hands 1 & 2.
It is designed for those leading on child wellbeing and protection within their club or organisation.

Learners will develop skills through:

  • Interactive case studies
  • Group discussion
  • Practical scenarios on managing wellbeing and protection concerns

Prerequisites

Participants must have completed both modules of:

  • Child Wellbeing & Protection in Sport (CWPS), or SPC

Workshop Aims

  • Strengthen skills required in the Child Protection Officer role
  • Explore wellbeing + protection concerns inside/outside the club environment, and how to respond effectively
  • Support clubs/SGBs to implement safe practices and procedures

About the Course

CWPS (delivered by sportscotland & Children 1st) replaces the old SPC workshop.
Before attending, participants must complete a short Brightspace eLearning module, which will be emailed around one week before the course.

The virtual workshop covers:

  • Good practice in coaching
  • Understanding types of abuse
  • How to respond appropriately to concerns

CWPS Renewal

If your certificate is about to expire, you can complete FREE renewal modules (eLearning only—no workshop) which extend your certification for another 3 years.

The Netball Leaders award is for S2/S6 school pupils that are supporting primary school festivals and Fun 5z.

After completing the award the individual will be able to:

  • Understand the different fundamentals delivered at the early stages.
  • Introduce skills and drills at the appropriate level for the participant
  • Adapt skills when necessary to suit participation level
  • support lead coaches

About the Qualification

A beginner‑level coaching qualification for those starting out in athletics coaching, working with athletes aged 8+.

The course must be completed in this order:

  1. 4 online modules
  2. Knowledge quiz
  3. Virtual classroom session
  4. Remote practical activity + reflection task

The Scottish Athletics LET’S GO Leaders Workshop is a fun, practical, and engaging 3-hour training course designed to introduce young people and new volunteers to the fundamentals of leading athletics sessions through the Run, Push, Jump, Throw.

Open to club volunteers and school pupils aged 14+, this workshop is a fantastic stepping stone for anyone interested in supporting athletics delivery, whether in clubs, schools, or community settings. It’s perfect for enhancing existing leadership programmes or sparking new pathways into volunteering and coaching.

All participants (16+) receive 6 weeks of free access to the LET’S GO App, which includes:

  • Digital game cards used during the workshop
  • A library of activity ideas and session resources
  • Tools to help build confidence in leading real sessions

The gymnastics activity instructor accreditation is a comprehensive four-day training course. Once completed, instructors can deliver fun and safe gymnastics-based physical activity to school-aged children and adults.

Participants must be 18 years of age.
