NHS Near Me
Near Me is a confidential and secure service which allows you to attend your pre-arranged appointment using a video call in a library, rather than attending in person. You will see the same consultant or healthcare professional you would have seen in the clinic, and you can use your own internet-enabled device (mobile phone, tablet, laptop, PC etc) to make the call.
Please contact your local library or GP for more information about using the service and participating libraries.
The Near Me service is available at Ardnamurchan Library, Culloden Library, Grantown Library, Fort William Library, Kinlochleven Library, Thurso Library and Ullapool Library. Please contact your local library for more information about using 'Near Me' virtual consultation service.
Happiness sensory programme
The Happiness Programme is an initiative first developed in Ireland which aims to help to change the lives of people living with cognitive challenges. It uses interactive light technology to provide meaningful activities for residents and patients in care homes and care settings. Using an interactive projector, light projects onto a surface such as a table, floor, ceiling or even someone’s bed, users can interact with device games using hands, arms or feet through the light beams.
The ambition of the project was to improve the lives and wellbeing of people, in the Highlands and bring light and happiness to those living with physical and cognitive challenges by engaging with hard-to reach groups and providing free accessible activities that had the potential to encourage customers back into our libraries, to attract new audiences and to show the diversity of events and activities that our libraries offer.
