NHS Near Me
Near Me is a confidential and secure service which allows you to attend your pre-arranged appointment using a video call in a library, rather than attending in person. You will see the same consultant or healthcare professional you would have seen in the clinic, and you can use your own internet-enabled device (mobile phone, tablet, laptop, PC etc) to make the call.
Please contact your local library or GP for more information about using the service and participating libraries.
NHS diabetes iPad loan service
HLH have teamed up with NHS Highland and AbilityNet to put in place an iPad borrowing scheme that will be delivered via libraries. The scheme aims to digitally support members of the community who have been diagnosed with or are at risk of Diabetes Type 2.
Through available funding NHS Highland have purchased iPads for use by the community to access relevant online health information for their condition who may not have digital devices at home. The scheme will allow customers in Highland to phone or e-mail their local library and arrange to borrow an iPad just as they would a book.
Customers will not have to provide evidence of their condition or an NHS referral to borrow the devices. Note that these iPads have been specifically locked down to allow access to authorised health information and access to the HLH website only i.e., they do not offer open access to the full internet.
