The online consultation runs from Monday 31st August – Friday 11th September 2026.
Consultation documents will also be available at Beauly Library from Monday 31st August - Friday 11th September 2026 and a member of the libraries team will be onsite during this period to answer any questions.
Benefits of the move
It is proposed to move the public library from its current location at Phipps Hall to the site of the agreed new Beauly Primary School and Community Campus, west of Cnoc na Ràth. This would create a new co-located community Library.
The benefits of the proposal are:
- We will be part of a vibrant community campus for leisure and learning that improves the lives of residents and visitors.
- There may be the opportunity to offer enhanced opening hours.
- The library will offer easy access for use of primary school classes.
- Co-location with other services will help to secure the future of the library for generations to come.
- Flexible spaces will allow us to develop an improved programme of learning and engagement opportunities for all ages.
- There will be exciting opportunities for community group and school pupils to engage with a designer in choosing graphics and colours.
- There will be new opportunities for the community to assist with selecting book stock that will be tailored to their needs.
Co-location at other High Life Highland Libraries resulted in the following benefits:
- Library visits increased by 306%
- Library book issues increased by 225%
The increase in space and access allows us to deliver an improved events programme for all of the community.
FAQs
Why move the library?
| The current library no longer fits the needs of the community. There is a demand for events but we currently do not have the space or facilities to accommodate this within the library. The new facility can be tailored to the needs of the community. It will be easier for us to attract all age groups. Experience tells us that libraries that are co-located with other services are used by the community better. Co-location with other services will help to secure the future of the library for generations to come. |
Will the library be available during school hours?
| Yes, we will have a range of opening hours including during the school day. |
Will the opening hours change?
| Our opening hours will include a range of times over mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. If there are leisure facilities included within the school campus, we may be able to offer extended opening due to additional staffing hours. |
What will it look like?
| We don’t know yet. If the proposal was to go ahead, we would involve community groups and the school pupils in choosing graphics and colours through working with a designer. |
