With each new season the gardens are an explosion of colour and texture with borders planted to demonstrate a wide variety of plants and growing conditions. Whatever the weather, whatever the season there’s always something to delight to eye and engage the senses. There is something for everyone – horticulturalists will be inspired by the UK’s most northerly Botanic Gardens, families may explore many hidden corners, you can enjoy a stroll with friends or just sit in the peaceful surroundings.

Inverness Botanic Gardens - a jewel in the Highland capital

Tropical House

Transport yourself to Mexico, Bahamas and Northern Brazil in perhaps the hottest spot in the Highlands!

Many of the plants are from the Southern Hemisphere which means we have fabulous flowers and fruit throughout the year. Seek out the coffee, bananas, ginger and pineapple plants. A waterfall cascades into a pond filled with friendly carp and goldfish, surrounded by showy tender plants such as bougainvillea, bird of paradise plants and orchids.

Cactus House

Step into a desert paradise where striking succulents and towering cacti create a dramatic landscape of shapes and textures!

Discover and incredible variety of species from arid regions around the world, each adapted to thrive in the harshest conditions. From spiky giants to delicate flowering succulents, this unique collection showcases the beauty and resilience of desert plants. Perfect for plant enthusiasts and curious explorers alike.
