Looking for creative ways to keep the family entertained during the October school holidays? Inverness Museum and Art Gallery has a fantastic programme of free family activities, from drop-ins to bookable workshops designed to inspire curious minds, encourage creativity, and bring history to life. Whether your children love animals, building and making, food history, or Vikings, there's something for everyone this October.

Our holiday programme offers a mix of creative activities, interactive experiences, and family-friendly learning opportunities, making it the perfect destination for a day out during the school break. Alongside these special events, visitors can also explore the museum's exhibitions, collections and coffee shop throughout their visit.

Discover Lost Animals Through Creativity

Families can kick off the holiday programme with Family Drop-In: The Last Wolf and Other Lost Animals. This creative session invites children and families to explore stories of animals that have disappeared from our landscapes and use their imagination through hands-on activities. This event is suitable for ages 5+

Make, Build, Play

Perfect for inventive young minds, Make, Build, Play is a relaxed drop-in session packed with opportunities to create, construct and experiment with artist Jan McCormack. Children can enjoy open-ended activities that encourage creativity and problem-solving through play.

Celebrate World Food Day

Join us for World Food Day: Help Mrs Rollo!, an engaging family workshop inspired by food, history and museum collections. Participants will take part in hands-on activities while learning about the stories behind everyday foods.

Advance booking is required for this workshop.

Meet a Viking!

Step back in time and meet Laeknir Ulfrson the Viking, brought to life by Andrew Newton. Families can discover fascinating facts about Viking life, handle replica objects, and enjoy interactive activities throughout the day.
