Witches, ghosts, ghouls and even a few zombie hands are preparing to take over the woods at Ben Nevis Visitor Centre this Halloween as High Life Highland’s much-loved Spooky Trail returns for another evening of frightfully good family fun.
Taking place on Wednesday 28 October from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, the popular event is back for its fourth year, promising spooky surprises, Halloween magic and plenty of outdoor adventure for brave youngsters and their families.
What’s waiting in the woods
As darkness falls over Glen Nevis, visitors can follow the woodland trail and discover a host of mysterious characters lurking amongst the trees. From ghostly apparitions and glowing pumpkins to creepy creatures hiding in the shadows, there’s something waiting around every corner.
But don’t worry, the event is designed to be more fun than frightening, making it perfect for families looking to enjoy a magical Halloween experience together.
Created and run by our Countryside Ranger Service and the team at the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre, the trail has become a firm fixture in Fort William’s Halloween calendar, attracting more than 100 visitors each year.
The most important thing to bring is a sense of adventure... and maybe a little bit of courage!

Crafts, stories and sweet treats
After exploring the Spooky Trail, families can warm up back at the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre, with tea, coffee and squash, while younger visitors can enjoy Halloween crafts, spooky storytelling with our library staff and sweet treats.
Fancy dress is actively encouraged, with witches, superheroes, vampires, skeletons and monsters all welcome!
A favourite with our rangers
Countryside Ranger Fiona MacLean said: “The Spooky Trail has become one of our favourite events of the year. We love transforming the woodland into a world of Halloween magic and seeing the excitement on children’s faces as they explore the trail.
“There’s something really special about being outdoors on a dark autumn evening, following the path through the woods and discovering all the spooky surprises along the way.
“Costumes are definitely encouraged and the more creative the better, but the most important thing to bring is a sense of adventure... and maybe a little bit of courage!”
With free entry, free parking and plenty of Halloween fun on offer, the Spooky Trail is the perfect way for families to celebrate the spooky season beneath the shadow of Ben Nevis.
