The North Coast Visitor Centre is your perfect starting point for exploring Caithness and the northern Highlands. Located in the historic former Thurso Town Hall and Carnegie Library, the centre offers a fascinating introduction to the region’s rich heritage and culture.
Whether you’re beginning your North Coast 500 journey or simply discovering Thurso, our museum, gallery, café, and shop provide offer a warm welcome and plenty to explore.
Discover and learn
Step inside and uncover centuries of Caithness history. Explore exhibitions featuring discover millions of years of Scottish history, from ancient fossils and standing stones to the UK’s first nuclear fast reactor. Our stunning gallery space hosts an exciting programme of unique changing exhibitions, so there’s always something new to explore.
Relax in our welcoming café with coffee and cakes, enjoy free Wi-Fi, and browse our shop for unique gifts and locally crafted souvenirs.

We aim to make your visit as easy and enjoyable as possible:

Assistance and service dogs are welcome. Please note, due to collections care and food preparation, we cannot admit family pets
