This exhibition is part of a new series of solo presentations from Highland based artists who High Life Highland have supported through the Visual Artist & Craft Maker Awards (VACMA) delivered in partnership with Creative Scotland. The Highland Art Room is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting artists and designers/craft makers by creating professional opportunities for them to develop and present new work.
First up is Cromarty based artist Alice Taylor who’s new work explores the garden and its inhabitants. The title of the exhibition, Leaves Lie Like Coins in my Hand, comes from the poem ‘Alder Roots’ by Gordon MacLellan.
'I have been enjoying making work from sketches and working from memory, going back to an hour ago or to the childhood garden I grew up in. The animals that inhabit the garden are often the characters that let me into a painting. The garden and agricultural sheds are an instant graphic element and there straight lines are a good companion for the waves of leaves and bird wings.' Alice Taylor
