The Inverness Townscape Heritage project was a grant-giving scheme that helped regenerate areas of social or economic need in the city.  Academy Street, an integral part of the historic Old Town which originally formed a defensive edge of Inverness and later became the industrial area for the centre, was the focus of one of the projects.  The Townscape Heritage Project aimed to increase understanding of the heritage of the street.  Inverness Museum and Art Gallery and AOC Archaeology worked with local groups to create content for a digital resource charting the history and development of the area.  Use the map below to explore the stories and images that were gathered.

Left shows a black and white image of the Empire Theatre in Inverness which has two corner towers. Right shows the Pentahotel which is a brown rectangular building with glass front and six storeys.
The Pentahotel now stands on the site of the former Empire Theatre
