Highland Folk Museum, Newtonmore

Step back in time at the Highland Folk Museum, Newtonmore, and experience life in the Highlands from 1700s to the 1950s.  There are over 35 historical buildings onsite to explore and discover how people in the Highlands lived, worked, went to school and enjoyed their leisure time.  Browse the unique selection of goods available in the museum’s gift shop, or enjoy refreshments in the onsite cafe.  Open daily from April to October.  Click on the image above for more info.

North Coast Visitor Centre, Thurso

Discover more about the unique history and culture of Caithness and north Sutherland at the North Coast Visitor Centre.  Explore the world class collections and artefacts, and find out about the country’s most northerly nuclear reactor at Dounreay.  The gallery space hosts an interesting programme of temporary exhibitions, which includes work by local artists and crafters from the Caithness community, and further afield.   Enjoy refreshments in Cafe North, or browse the museum gift shop.  Click on the image above for more info.

As High Life Highland is a charity, all three museums do not charge admission, however, we encourage our patrons to make a donation during their visit.  We heavily rely on these to help us improve, grow, and continue to make our heritage accessible.  Gift Aid Forms for UK residents are available.
