The Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre is delighted to announce this special evening talk during Skye Week on 10th June, 7pm,  at Portree Community Centre.

Cutting-edge, steeped in tradition, innovative and inspirational, Martyn Bennett came  from a long line of Skye tradition-bearers. Piper, fiddler, composer, endless experimenter, he was one of Scotland's most prodigiously gifted and beloved musicians until his untimely death at the age of 33. This celebration of his life, his work and spirit is introduced by Martyn's mother, singer, folklorist and author Margaret Bennett, who shares a collection of photographs, memories and music as well as previously unreleased recordings. A rare chance to hear and see other facets of Martyn's character and musicianship, including a Paganini duet played by Martyn and the inimitable Hester Dickson. The event will also explore the Bennett family’s deep connections to Skye through stories, images and shared heritage, offering a moving and intimate portrait of one of Scotland’s most beloved musical figures.

This promises to be a memorable and inspiring evening — one not to be missed.
