High Life Highland School’s Out Programme

2022 Summer Activities for Inverness Museum and Art Gallery

A River Journey: Myths and Monsters
Join High Life Highland staff from museums, archives, libraries and the ranger service on a journey of adventure, mystery and creativity for children from 7 to 12 years old. Meander your way along the River Ness via the Castle, Museum and Ness Islands to the Archive Centre.  Hear remarkable myths, look for traces of mythical creatures, create your own Pictish art and delve into dusty documents on this amazing River Journey.  Please drop children off at the Town House car park (just around the corner from the Town House).  A member of staff will meet them there and take them over to the Museum and Art Gallery.  Children can be picked up from the Highland Archive Centre at the end of the event.
22 & 28 July 2022:  9.30am-1pm

Art Challenge: Pictish Pictures
We’ll look at the Pictish Stones in the museum – the wolfstone, the boar and the mystery beast. We’ll also explore some of the symbols of the Picts. You’ll then create a mini art book to take home.
Friday 29 July 2022: 1.30pm-2.30pm

Art Challenge: Sea Safari
Join us on a special sea safari at the museum – we’ll start by looking at the oldest fish in Inverness, find out where the sea used to be, and get hands on with our handling box of marine resources. Session includes a sea themed story and we’ll be making a lovely jellyfish mobile to take home.  Age 6-10.
