An Inspired Scavenger: Foraging for Sculpture – adventures in wood and (other) found objects

Leon’s sculptural work has evolved from using material gathered in the local environment.

Ideas of transformation and order have developed into a visual language that draws on fundamental considerations of form and proportion, taking on common themes of sequence, rhythm, pattern, and texture.  His approach provides an alternative view of using found or discarded material and reveals his personal vision of making contemporary sculpture.

In a constant process of assessment, he decides what will be useful, and how, to inspire new projects for investigation.  Collecting and making, making and collecting inform each other to find different ways to develop the work; the process generates spontaneous and eccentric outcomes upon which the artist asserts geometrical forms, mimicking nature, in order to produce the final pieces.
