Inverness Museum and Art Gallery will be hosting a presentation by Dr Lesley Mickel on “Our Hielandmen”: Theatricalising the Highlands, 1507-1616. The talk will explore representations of Highland Scots in court theatre entertainments in Scotland, France and Germany from the early 16th to the mid 17th century, showing the development of overlapping stereotypes of the savage, the heroic and the romantic Highlander.
Dr Mickel is Programme Leader in Drama and Performance and Literature at the University of the Highlands and Islands. She lectures on drama and literature and pursues research interests in Renaissance court theatre, together with heritage management, festivals and learning and engagement.
