School’s Out – Family Samhainn Crafts Drop-In

Join us as we explore Samhainn during the October school holidays. These drop-in sessions are suitable for all ages. All materials provided at no charge but donations are welcome.

Tuesday 14th  /  Wednesday 15th  /  Wednesday 22nd October, Drop-in from 1.30 – 4pm

Come along to the Room to Discover to make your own good luck charm craft. Charms have existed in one form or another for hundreds of years. The stones we have in the upstairs gallery were used for many different reasons. The sea beans kept sailors safe. Some are tokens of love and others protect against faeries or are said to be used by witches. Today, many people have a lucky charm, not dissimilar to the charms we have in the museum. It might be a piece of jewellery, a special jumper or even a pair of socks!

Saturday 25th October, Drop-in from 1.30 – 4pm

Or join us at the end of the month to make guising masks in our Room to Discover. Guising masks are worn as part of the traditional Scottish and Irish practice of “guising” at Halloween, where children dress in disguise to visit houses, perform songs or jokes, and receive treats.
