Fancy diving into the world of cetaceans and learning more about how they live and how we can help them thrive? And there’s no need to even leave dry land, just pop along to Dingwall Academy this weekend.
High Life Highland, Whale and Dolphin Conservation and British Divers Marine Life Rescue are giving people the chance to find out more about the natural world and particularly the creatures of the deep blue. This free event on Saturday 31 May (12-4pm) has been organised by Dingwall Community Library, which is part of the Green Libraries Scotland Project.
The event’s special guest – a life size inflatable Humpback Whale called Hope – is too large for the library itself so visitors need to make their way to the Dingwall Academy sports hall instead. You can even get inside her!
Suitable for all the family, there will be the chance to learn all about whales and dolphins with Whale and Dolphin Conservation as well as learning about how to protect marine life with the British Divers Marine Life Rescue team.
High Life Highland Countryside Rangers will also be on hand to help people understand and learn more about sea life.
Fiona Presly, Network Librarian with High Life Highland said: “We are really looking forward to this event which is certain to bring some added value to our customers. Something fun and educational and of interest to all ages which we think our community will enjoy being part of.”
This event forms part of the ‘Growing Greener Highland Communities’ project, funded by CILIPS Scotland. With this funding, green hubs have been formed across four libraries (Dingwall, Wick, Ardnamurchan and Caol) within the Highlands, transforming them into innovative centres for community climate and environmental engagement.
