Finding your feel good is easy with High Life Highland’s Wellness Month

September has been declared Wellness Month by the High Life Highland, with the aim of shining a light on how everyone can improve their physical, mental and social wellbeing across all of the charity’s services.

Wellness is defined as the act of practicing healthy habits in all areas of life, including health, fitness, mindfulness, mental health and social well-being. From leisure centres to libraries, from archives to arts and from sporting moments to music – High Life Highland is well placed to offer Highlanders multiple opportunities to enhance their wellbeing.

Steve Walsh, Chief Executive of High Life Highland said: “At High Life Highland our aim is to Make Life Better and while health and fitness are major aspects of wellness, there’s so much more to wellness than just your physical health. We have exceptional services available to residents and visitors alike here – and for some people these can be life changing.

“This is our first Wellness Month, and as well as highlighting the breadth of what we have on offer to support everyone’s wellness, we hope we can bring people together like never before so they leave September feeling better physically, mentally and socially.”

Throughout September and all across Highland there will be activities to suit all ages and abilities from baby massage in the Badenoch Library to Alzheimer’s storytelling in Fort William Library. Other library activities include mindful colouring, poetry evenings, crafting sessions and traditional music performances.

Several leisure centres are hosting special taster classes for people who want to give something new a go, such as free Strength Clubs sessions for beginners at Aviemore Community Centre and wellness yoga at Black Isle Leisure. Free 7 days passes are on offer during the whole of September so that as many people as possible can find out what makes them feel good!

There’s a Doors Open Days at the Highland Archive and Registration Centre on Saturday 6 September and at the Highland Folk Museum they are throwing open the doors of their Am Fasgadh special collections store on 14 September.

Spending time in nature is well proven to enhance a person wellbeing so there will be a series of wellbeing walks, activities and volunteering sessions with the Countryside Rangers as well as within the Inverness Botanic Gardens & Café.

Emma Thomson, Business Development Manager at High Life Highland said: “At High Life Highland we have declared September as Wellness Month. It’s a chance for people to explore new opportunities to enhance their physical, mental and social wellbeing across all our services.

“At High Life Highland we want everyone to ‘find their feel good’ whether that’s trying a new class such as HYROX or sound bathing at your local leisure centre, exploring nature with the Countryside Rangers or delving into historic family connections with the Archive Service, joining a creative workshop or enjoying some music in the local library.

“We have so much planned for Wellness Month including open days, special offers, free passes and so much more!”

Please keep an eye on local High Life Highland social media pages for up to the minute details of events and activities or to read a series wellbeing blogs, which will be published on the High Life Highland website over the course of the month.
