HYROX hits highlife!

HYROX is billed as the ultimate fitness race and it’s coming to a highlife leisure centre near you!

High Life Highland has announced that three of its sites will be introducing this global fitness phenomenon this summer. Inverness Leisure, Aviemore Community Centre and Lochaber Leisure Centre are all rolling out this new offering to customers.

While HYROX is associated with large competition events, HYROX training takes HYROX fundamentals and turns them into a comprehensive approach to performance fitness that caters for anyone. It resembles traditional circuit training with the objective being to build baseline fitness in participants covering strength, endurance, aerobic capacity, agility and skill work.

Josh Brannan, Leisure Supervisor & Head Coach at Aviemore Community Centre explained: “HYROX is the ultimate training in functional fitness. It is accessible, fun, engaging, challenging, and gets athletes of any age or ability in great shape. What makes it so accessible is its low entry point and simple functional movements, scalable from beginner to expert level.

“HYROX training combines eight workouts, running within a structured system. It’s a new take on the traditional fitness class with HYROX turning fitness into a real sport, which can be enjoyed by the every-day gym goer as well as elite athletes.”

Graeme Ross, Head of Leisure with High Life Highland said: “The introduction of HYROX training to highlife is a really exciting one for us and we are positive it will prove very popular. We hope to be able to introduce regular HYROX simulation events once we have the programme established within these sites. It’s a great new addition to the timetable. Furthermore, we hope to extend HYROX training to other High Life Highland sites in the future with HYROX heading to Ross-shire within a matter of months.”

Booking for HYROX training classes opens on 16 June. For more information contact your local leisure centre.
