In 2014 our 1700s Highland Township was used as a filming location for the hugely successful TV series ‘Outlander’. Based on the popular books by Diana Gabaldon, the series has a cult following and many fans have been visiting the Highland Folk Museum as part of a Scottish tour taking in the sights and locations from the show.
In September 2015 the Highland Folk Museum held it’s first ‘Outlander Day’ in conjunction with the Inverness Outlanders. Lots of traditional skills were on display, including basket making, pole lathe, spinning&weaving, herbalism and cooking were all on show.
There was also a special demonstration of waulking the cloth just like Claire took part in was on show from a local waulking group, various members of the public and some of the Inverness Outlanders joined in for a go!
We will be planning an even bigger and better day for next year, the date will be the 4th of June 2016! Check in on this page for updates.
Just beware the redcoats!!
