Invergordon Leisure Centre will be running a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification course on the following dates:
Course Dates: 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th August & 9th, 10th, 18th September 2016
Course Times:
Thursday 25th August: 5pm – 10pm
Friday 26th August: 5pm – 10pm
Saturday 27th August: 9am – 6pm
Sunday 28th August: 9am – 6pm
Friday 9th September: 5pm – 10pm
Saturday 10th September: 9am – 6pm
Sunday 18th September: 9am – until completion of exam
Course Cost: £289.50 (to be paid on completion of competency test)
Pre-requisites:
- Candidates must be 16 years of age prior to assessment.
- Have a good level of fitness and be able to complete the following:
Jump / Dive into water
Swim 50 metres in 60 seconds
Swim 100 meters continuously on front and back
Surface dive to the floor of the pool
Climb out unaided without the use of steps or ladders
Some reasons for becoming a lifeguard:
- Being a lifeguard offers a fantastic foundation to a career in the leisure industry. Many senior managers began their rise to leisure stardom by lifeguarding at their local pools.
- The opportunity to get fit. Not only will you have to have a basic level of fitness to become a lifeguard but you will be encouraged to stay fit and get fitter.
- Lastly but still very importantly, you will gain a life skill that will come in handy for the rest of your life.
About the qualification:
Training and assessment for this qualification is split into 3 sections. Each section is then broken into a further 3 elements
Section 1 The Lifeguard, Swimming Pool and Supervision
Element 1: The Lifeguard and the Law
Element 2: The Swimming Pool, Hazards and Control Measures
Element 3: Swimming Pool Supervision
Section 2 Intervention, Rescue and Emergency Action Plan
Element 1: Intervention and Rescue
Element 2: Rescue of a Casualty with a Suspected Spinal Injury.
Element 3: Emergency Action Plan
Section 3 CPR, AED and First Aid
Element 1: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Element 2: Automated External Defibrillation (AED) – Optional, not included in this course
Element 3: First Aid
Assessment
The assessment takes place at the conclusion of the training course and is carried out by an independent assessor that has not been involved with the teaching of the course. This will include theory and practical elements from the syllabus taken from the 8th edition manual. On successful completion your qualification will be valid for 2 years.
If for any reason you are unsuccessful in passing the course on the date above a reassessment date will be organised after initial extra training given. This date will be within 28 days of your initial assessment date at a time to suit both yourself and the examiner. There will usually be an additional cost of £50 to cover training & examiner fees.
