MiDAS, the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme, is a nationally recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers. This is a Module One: Standard Certificate course and has been arranged by Ullapool Community Sport Hub through Highlife Highland to directly benefit the Ullapool community and help local sport clubs, groups and voluntary organisations in overcoming transport barriers. Course candidates will learn:
- A thorough knowledge of the legal responsibilities of a minibus driver and duty of care
- Department for Transport codes of practice in safe carriage of passengers
- Good practice in passenger comfort
- Health and Safety at work for Drivers
- Manoeuvring of vehicles
- Defensive Driving techniques
- Information on BCT hire policies and procedures
- Minibus Fire and Evacuation
Candidates must sit a written test paper and undertake a 70 minute on-the-road driving assessment.
Once the course requirements have been assessed and satisfactorily passed, each MiDAS certificate is valid for a period of four years from the date of the driving assessment. On completion of this MiDAS Module One course candidates will be eligible to complete Module Two: Accessible Certificate, Half-day course.
