Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre to relocate during renovations

Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre have had to close temporarily while renovation works are being carried out on the Elgin Hostel and will relocate to Portree Community Library.

From Monday 13th July the Archive service will be situated on the 1st floor mezzanine of Portree Community Library and will continue to provide as full a range of services as possible, opening hours will remain unaffected during the period.

The An Cogadh Mòr exhibition which remembers the Great War in Skye and Lochalsh and tells the story of the First World War from a local perspective will be moved to the exhibition space within the library.

A full remote enquiry service, via telephone and email, will continue as normal and a selection of the Centre’s frequently used resources will still be available for customers’ to use.

Anyone planning to use the archive service is asked to contact the centre by telephone or e-mail in advance of their visit to discuss what they wish to research which will allow staff to identify relevant information sources, in advance.
