History of Highland Healthcare

To mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS, the Highland Archive Centre is proud to host, in collaboration with NHS Highland, an event showcasing the long history of healthcare in the Highlands.

The programme of the day is as follows:

1:00pm: Talk by Dr David Alston (Historian and Chair of NHS Highland)
1:45-2:00pm: Break
2:00pm: Talk by Jim Leslie (Author of a series of books about Highland hospitals)
3:00pm: The audience is invited to view a display of historic documents relating to the Highlands and Islands Medical Service (the forerunner to the NHS), the nursing school at Raigmore, Craig Dunain asylum and other health related subjects.

Spaces are limited for this event and booking is essential.


This is a free event but donations towards the work of the Highland Archive Service would be gratefully received.
