Moving Minds Panel with John Finnie, MSP

Thursday 4th August, 12:30 – 14:00, IMAGMoving Minds 2016 (2)

As part of a programme of events and activities around IMAG’s showing of the ‘Moving Minds’ Exhibition, this summer, we are pleased to welcome John Finnie MSP to host a panel discussion with contributors to the exhibition; a rare opportunity to hear directly from members of the Gypsy/Traveller community about their experiences and reflections.

John Finnie is the Green MSP for the Highlands and Islands region. He is the Scottish Green Party spokesperson on Justice, Transport, Tourism and Rural & Island Communities and serves on the Justice Committee and the Rural Economy and Connectivity Committee of the Scottish Parliament. He lives in Inverness.

He has said this about his involvement in the Moving Minds Programme:

“I am delighted host this event, along with Gypsy/Traveller contributors to the Moving Minds exhibition. This important exhibition, collated by MECOPP and Gypsy/Travellers, gives a powerful voice to those who are often denied the opportunity to share their stories and experiences. We must all work hard to break down barriers and help folk realise that, regardless of our cultural background, we are all human and can learn from each other – the Moving Minds exhibition will dispel myths and promote understanding.”

£3.50,  Advance booking and payment is essential, in person at Inverness Museum & Art Gallery, call 01463 237114.  To reserve your place and arrange payment email [email protected]

Moving Minds, showing until Saturday 6 August 2016 in the Community Gallery and Room to Discover, is an exhibition created from an anthology of work composedGyp by Gypsy/Travellers across Scotland.  In an open, honest and often humorous way, this exhibition shares their memories, poetry and photographs and reflects on the impact prejudice can have upon wellbeing.  Find out more by following this link:

The exhibition is being shown in two locations, the Community Gallery and Room to Discover.  Room to Discover is sometimes used for other activities. Please call 01463 237114 before making a special visit to this exhibition.
