Join us for a new event for 2018 – “Woolly Weekend – from lamb to loom” – fun activities for all the family. Follow the journey of wool from shearing , dyeing, carding and spinning to many crafts including knitting, crochet, weaving, felt making and lots lots more. Visit our different activity areas and have a go yourself! (Small fee for some activities apply) Hope to see ewe there!
Timetable
Each day the activities and demos will take place 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm (museum will be open 10.30am – 5.30pm as usual).
Activities
Township: Weaving on the loom in the Township (Sat & Sun am)
Demos of traditional hand crafts and natural dyeing in the Township (Sat & Sun pm)
Blackhouse: Our Blackhouse is now open for visitors and there will be spinning demonstration (Sat & Sun am & pm)
Shepherd’s Bothy: Campbell Slimon, local author talking about his book – Stells, Stools, Strupag: A personal reminiscence of sheep, shepherding, farming and the social activities of a Highland Parish. (Sat & Sun am in the Shepherd’s Bothy)
On Sunday afternoon we will have some members of Laggan Heritage in the Bothy sharing local memories.
Croft: Sandy Wilson, local hornworker, will in the Croft doing demos of hornmaking (Sat & Sun, both session)
Shinty Pitch Marquees: Waulking Group – on the Shinty pitch 2.00pm – 4.00pm (Sat & Sun)
There will also be an event marquee on the shinty pitch where members of the local WRI will be knitting and doing crochet, there will be kids crafts (£3pp) and Knockando Woollen Mill will have a stall demonstrating Clootie rag-rugging and peg looms. (Sat & Sun both sessions)
So no need to be “sheepish”, we hope “ewe” will bring the whole family and come and join in the fun!
