Get Online with High Life Highland

As part of Get Online Week, High Life Highland (HLH) is highlighting the opportunities available to help people gain digital skills and confidence.

HLH’s Adult Learning Service can help people make online connections, access information, and increase opportunities for online learning.

Get Online Week runs from October 18-24.

HLH Adult Learning Manager Mike Jones said: “We offer a range of different courses for people to take whether you have no experience at all with technology or want to use more such as social media, shopping or chatting with friends and family.

“Technology moves at a rapid rate and it can be daunting, and many don’t feel confident – that’s where we come in to help people develop these digital skills and ensure no one is left behind.

“Our courses can help people learn practical skills, using tools like WhatsApp, posting on social media platforms like Facebook, and learning how to keep your e-mail and social media accounts safe.”

The Adult Learning Service runs in Caithness, Inverness, Lochaber, Nairn and Badenoch and Strathspey, Ross and Cromarty, Skye and Lochalsh, and Sutherland as well as offering some courses online.

Courses include:

  • Get ready to go Digital – for beginners not engaged with technology or using it in very limited ways
  • Go Digital for Life – for those ready to move onto developing essential digital skills such as social media, online entertainment, using public services, shopping, health and wellbeing, and organising your finances
  • Go Digital for Learning – an online course through Google Workspace for English for Speakers of Other Languages, and practical topics like wellbeing and resilience and Universal Credit
  • Essential Digital Skills – designed to help you store information online, how to register and apply for services, how to buy and sell goods, and how to solve problems using digital tools and online services.

Mr Jones added: “All of these options allow you to develop the digital skills for education and study, for work, for hobbies and interests, and for connecting with family and friends.

“If you are unsure where to start, or want to learn a bit more, or even become one of our Digital Champions, the Adult Learning team will help you on your way.”
