Festive Fun in City Park

Festive lights, décor and family activities are coming to Bellfield Park in Inverness this weekend as the Bellfield Winter Garden opens for the month of December.

As the season of good cheer fast approaches, families and visitors to Inverness can enjoy a seasonal stroll, hunting for snowmen, mastering a Christmas Tree maze or simply enjoying the parks winter themed illuminations and decor from this Friday (December 3).

Supported by the Inverness Common Good Fund, the Bellfield Winter Garden is delivered on behalf of The Highland Council’s Inverness Events and Festivals Working Group by High Life Highland.

Highland Councillor Ian Brown, Chair of the city’s Events and Festivals Working Group said: “In light of the ongoing pandemic and its effect on social activities and large-scale events, we know families have missed traditional occasions so we want to allow families the opportunity to mark this special time of the year whilst keeping the health and welfare of the public and staff foremost in our mind.

“The Bellfield Winter Garden is a lovely outdoor space for the whole family to enjoy and will be something we hope encourages people out into the fresh air and to explore the green spaces around the city.”

The illuminations can be enjoyed seven days a week from noon until 8pm, whilst the park will remain open as normal, with the playground, tennis courts and outdoor gym equipment all still available for general use.

High Life Highland Events Manager, Amy Macleod, said: “Bellfield’s Winter Garden is a family friendly, festive park space for individuals and families to enjoy in their own time in the lead up to Christmas.

“Open seven days, and with the distance from the High Street to Bellfield park similar to the length of Glasgow’s Buchanan Street, we would like to encourage visitors to the City Centre to enjoy a stroll around the park and riverside and remind people of all that Inverness has to offer this winter.”

On Wednesday (December 1) Erin Gilbertson, nine, and Finlay, seven, of Bellfield Park opened the first door on the Bellfield Winter Garden Advent Calendar.

The calendar will be opened each day at noon by the first visitors to the park at that time.

On Thursday (December 2) Reuben Bruce, five, with cousin Emily Murray of Elm Park opened door number two.
